Arrival on-site

  • If you have booked a room in the DESY Hostel you may want to check in first. Check-in time is from 14:00 onwards. Keys for the Hostel rooms may be collected from, or returned to, the Hostel Office in Bldg. 6 (Mo-Fri 9:00–13:00) or the DESY Main Gatehouse, Notkestrasse (Mo-Fri 14:00-9:00; weekends and public holidays: 24 hours a day). In case you encounter problems with the Key System please address the Hostel Office or the gatekeepers. As guest of the DESY Hostel, you have access to a kitchen with personal fridge, dishes and cooking facilities as well as to washing machines.
  • Please get in touch with your Local Contact after your arrival on site. If not already done before your trip fix appointment to get the on-site instructions at the beamline.
  • See lab personnel to get the laboratory onsite instruction (if lab access is required). Appointment has to be taken before your arrival at DESY. Please consult User chemistry laboratories.
  • If you have already obtained a DACHS Card (badge for access) during an earlier visit to DESY please bring it with you, otherwise you will be charged the costs for a spare card. If you do not have a DACHS card yet please get one here:

The DACHS Card (if not already obtained during an earlier visit) will be provided:
• in bldg. 6/ R110
(Mon-Thu 8:00-12:00 and 13:00-16:00, Fri 8:00-12:00 and 13:00-14:00).
• outside these office hours at the DESY main entrance, Notkestr. 85 (upon request only)

Performing your experiment

  • As support for your experiment, DESY Photon Science offers different infrastructure facilities (mechanical workshop, library, chemistry laboratory, etc.) for external and in-house users.
  • For WLAN access please consult: WLAN at DESY.
  • For each experiment the user group is responsible of having enough personnel to cover the whole beamtime including night shifts. The staff provides assistance for setting-up and running the experiment, but cannot cover entire shifts as support for the user group.
  • Please note that you have to fulfill the safety requirements to work in laboratories and workshops. In addition to your Online Safety Training you will have to get acquainted with on-site safety regulations at your working sites. Technical support during your experiment
The technical shift service ensures that the various support systems, (e.g. water, compressed air, helium, exhaust gases, crane operation etc.). For contact please see technical shift service.

Regular working hours are from Mo-Fri 7:30-16:00. Outside regular working hours (Mo-Fri: 17:00 - 01:00, Sat, Sun, Holidays: 09:00 - 24:00) you may call the shift service via mobile phone (9)3868.

In case of fire or accidents, dial the DESY EMERGENCY Number 2500
(from outside DESY +49 40 8998 2500).
Do not directly call ambulance or fire brigade yourself!
