CFEL/DESY scientist Giovanni Cirmi has been identified by the Editorial Board of Journal of Physics B: Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics  as one of the most highly recognized scientists in the early years of their research careers, and was invited to write a paper in the special issue on 'Emerging Leaders' on the occasion of the Journal of Physics series' 50th anniversary celebrations in 2017.

Giovanni Cirmi's invited contribution entitled ‘Cascaded second-order processes for the efficient generation of narrowband terahertz radiation’ reviews several works that brought to a new idea which will bring to the efficient production of coherent terahertz radiation for a table-top free-electron laser. He was one of the main contributors to this idea.

Edgar Weckert, DESY's Research Director for Photon Science, congratulates Giovanni Cirmi for being selected as an 'Emerging Leader': "This is an indication how substantial his contributions are on femtosecond visible and infrared parametric sources for the scientific community in the field of Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics."

Selected publication: Giovanni Cirmi et al., ‘Cascaded second-order processes for the efficient generation of narrowband terahertz radiation’, Journal of Physics B: Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics, Volume 50, Number 4 (2017), Special issue: emerging leaders.
