Safety Requirements

To obtain the permission to work at Photon Science Facilities users have to fulfill the following safety requirements:

Computer Based Safety Training

Please complete the DESY Photon Science online Safety Training before your visit to DESY. You may check the validity of your current safety training certificate on your personal management site after login to DOOR.
The Safety Training is accessible via DOOR -> General User -> Online Safety Training.

The training takes about 20 to 45 minutes depending on your intended work at DESY Photon Science. After completion of the first mandatory unit “basic instructions” you select additional modules corresponding to your planned activities at DESY. An overview of required modules is given in the pdf document "Safety Training Modules" on the right hand side of this page.

At the end of this training please print out and sign the safety certificate and forward it to the Photon Science User Office as indicated on the print-out, or hand it in personally to the User Office upon arrival at the latest (PETRA III experimental hall "Max von Laue", room L106). If you are already on-site and the User Office is closed, the certificate can also be activated by the shift service and the beamline managers. A valid, complete and registered safety training is a prerequisite for getting access to FLASH and PETRA III facilities, laboratories and workshops.

In case of questions or problems with this procedure, please, contact the User Office by email or phone: +49 (4)40 8998-2304 or -2368.

On-Site Instructions

After your arrival at DESY you will have to participate in on-site instructions for all laboratories, workshops and beamlines you intend to work at. Please discuss details with your local contact and check the given information for the infrastructure facilities.

DESY Access Control Handling System (DACHS Card)

The PETRA III and FLASH accelerators as well as laboratories, mechanical workshops and the experimental areas are secured by the access control system DACHS (DESY ACcess Handling System) against trespassing.
A valid DACHS card is needed to work in these areas or to activate the interlock, respectively. DACHS cards will provide access to the respective areas only with
• completed and registered safety training modules
