Sample Preparation Lab

Fume hood located at P24 Hutch.

For the preparation of air or moisture-sensitive samples a small lab is available directly at the beamline.
The lab is equipped with a fume hood and a storage cabinet for samples and non-toxic solvents. The Schlenk line is placed in fume hood and makes it possible to easily handle moisture and/or oxygen-sensitive samples. At the moment only very basic equipment is available, however, some equipment can be borrowed from the central chemical lab in the hall east. If concentrated acids are required for sample preparation, the central lab has to be used!

How to mount a crystal?

Properly sized and mounted crystals improve data quality and strategy optimization. We routinely used brass pins as means to mount a crystal. The brass pin will be hold by a magnetic base on diffractometer. Brass pins which are thermal conducting are suitable for the low-temperature experiments. The length of brass pins are 26 and 22 mm. We mount most crystals on top of the fine glass/quartz fibers or suitable cactus needle, the length of the fibers should be cut to 3-3.5 mm in order to be in the center of the beam and gas flow. The selected crystal can be fixed on the glass fiber by two component epoxy glue or Paratone oil.
