The Hard X-ray Micro- / Nanoprobe beamline P06 at PETRA III provides advanced visualisation with microscopic respectively nanoscopic spatial resolution using different X-ray techniques:

  • X-ray fluorescence (XRF)
  • X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS)
  • X-ray diffraction (XRD)
  • Coherent X-ray diffraction (CXDI) and
  • imaging (absorption, phase contrast).

The coherent X-ray diffraction imaging technique ptychography enables X-ray microscopy with increased spatial resolution down to some nanometers.

There is also the possibility of tomography for some of the aforementioned contrasts (e.g. absorption imaging, XRF)

The beamline capitalizes the excellent brilliance of the PETRA III source to provide micro- and nanofocused beams with highest intensities and high resolution in real as well as in reciprocal space. Some techniques will also use the high degree of coherence of the beam (e.g. ptychography).

The beamline P06 houses two different experiments in separate hutches:

  • The Nanoprobe experiment is already open for user applications with user operations starting in spring 2012.
  • The Microprobe experiment is currently under commisioning. Depending on the feasibility of the individual experiment proposals for the Microprobe will be considered as well.
