Laboratory setup.
X-ray microscopy works best at highly brilliant synchrotron radiation sources. However, the availability of synchrotron radiation is very limited, and x-ray microscopy in the lab, the field, or in space is highly desirable. Within the scope of an ESA project, we have designed and built a compact device based on an x-ray microfocus tube for scanning fluorescence and full-field transmission tomography.
Here are some examples of the capabilities of this laboratory x-ray microscope:
- Fluorescence tomogram of a root Camaecyparis (yellow false cypress)
- Transmission tomography of bones.
