Welcome to the website of the Photonics Research and Innovation group!
The Ultrafast Photonics Research and Innovation group (FS-PRI) is dedicated to research on advanced photonic methods and technologies. Our activities range from the development of ultrafast ytterbium lasers for secondary photon and particle sources (EUV sources, laser-plasma accelerators and free-electron lasers), nonlinear optics in multi-pass cells and fibres to gas-phase sono-photonics. We address fundamental photonics phenomena and develop applied industry-relevant technologies.
While our laboratories are located at DESY, some of our activities are also hosted by the Helmholtz Institute Jena, strengthening the close connection between these two institutes.
Take a look at our website to learn more about the group, our research projects or to find out about publications or open positions. You are welcome to contact us!

DESY Innovation Award for the Projekt “Gas-phase sono-photonic light control“.
|
This year's DESY Innovation Award goes to Christoph Heyl,
who leads the Photonics Research and Innovation Group at DESY,
and his team at DESY (Yannick Schrödel, Tino Lang),
TU Darmstadt (Mario Kupnik, Sören Sönnecken, Claas Hartmann) and
Aalen University (Regina Schuster, Anne Harth). Their joint project
“Gas-phase sono-photonic light control” focuses on the contactless
control of light in air or other gases through the use of intense ultrasonic waves.
