The 404. Wilhelm and Else Heraeus-Seminar "Matter in Coherent Light" will take place on March 17-20, 2008 in Bad Honnef (Germany).
Since several of these new sources (VUV free electron laser FLASH, low emittance high energy synchrotron radiation source PETRA III and the European XFEL) are already operating or will be available in Hamburg soon, there is a need to communicate their unique source properties and the associated scientific prospects especially to diploma and Ph.D. students as well as to young researchers in the field. The seminar intends also to discuss the present state and open methodological questions of the different techniques. We also would like to initiate a discussion between related scientific fields like optical laser physics and electron microscopy with the synchrotron radiation community for the exchange of ideas, since the new FEL sources operate in areas of parameter space where these two communities will meet.
