DORIS III (originally: Double Ring Store) was the first storage ring at DESY. First synchrotron radiation experiments were performed at DORIS in 1974. The HAmburger SYnchrotronstrahlungsLABor (HASYLAB) with 25 beamlines at the DORIS storage ring was inaugurated in 1981.

After its third conversion in 1992 it was called DORIS III. Since 1993 the ring was operated exclusively as a 2nd generation synchrotron radiation source for 36 beamlines until Oct. 22, 2012.

The DORIS III ring was finally shut down on 2 January 2013.
