Laboratory-Based Pump-Probe Experiments with Femtosecond Lasers

Br+ ion images recorded with a Velocity Map Imaging (VMI) spectrometer after FEL-induced Coulomb explosion of unaligned (top) and adiabatically laser aligned (middle) dibromobenzene molecules. The bottom image shows Br+ ions after Coulomb explosion of the laser aligned molecules with a Ti:Sapphire laser (bottom).

In order to prepare and complement our femtosecond pump-probe experiments at Free-Electron Lasers, we are performing laboratory-based strong-field experiments with a femtosecond Ti:Sapphire laser system. We also have a 30 Hz nanosecond Nd:YAG laser which can be used, e.g., for adiabatic molecular alignment (see image on the right as well as Time-Resolved Photoelectron Diffraction of Laser-Aligned Molecules at FLASH and LCLS).
