HIBEF Consortium

The Helmholtz International Beamline for Extreme Fields (HIBEF) at the European XFEL is a project driven by DESY, Helmholtz-Institute Jena and Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) and established a multi-purpose experimental area for dynamically driven Diamond Anvil Cell, high-power and ultra-intense lasers as well as high-field magnets experiments at the HED instrument endstation of the European XFEL.

DESY is one of the founding institutions of the international HIBEF consortium which is led by HZDR and operates and contributes to setups at the HED instrument at EuXFEL.

DESY Photon Science is involved in the following HIBEF workpackages:

X-ray Instrumentation

Dynamic compression in the Diamond Anvil Cell

Pulsed Magnetic fields

Shock compression at the HED instrument
